Slow-running computers are agonizing for PC users. They cannot fully enjoy the programs and applications in the computer when it takes much time to just load them and much worse to run them. And for those who have just bought units which were impressive at the beginning but deteriorated a little too soon, the agony is doubled as they may regret their costly purchase.

Most would easily jump to the conclusion that when a computer runs slowly, the system itself must have been defective right from the beginning. However, it is not always the case. Oftentimes, the culprit is poor computer maintenance and a few other things. In this article, one will be acquainted with the common factors that diminish computer performance and the quick and simple measures to address the issue.
To begin with, one must be aware how he/she has basically not been taking utmost care of the PC. It would be helpful if the PC owner will be able to evaluate his/her computer usage habits and pinpoint those practices which have most likely caused the subtle damage of the unit.
The number one reason behind slow-running computers is the viruses that squirm in the computer system. These viruses come in the form of hazardous programs such as Spyware, Malware and Trojans among others. It harms the PC by executing random commands without the user’s permission. Some owners suffer from divulgence of their personal information (account passwords, credit card info, etc.) due to infected computers. It is therefore necessary that one must first and foremost keep the computer protected from viruses at all times. There are numerous anti-virus software programs that are widely available on the internet and serve as the computer’s first line of defense. It only takes little effort to search and download one. Once installed, it will conduct either automatic or manual system scans, depending on the settings.
Additionally, the computer can also pick up the pace by getting a bigger memory. It must be understood that the longer the PC has been in use, the larger the memory it demands. Hence, a memory upgrade is mandatory to meet the system demands. The ideal memory size is 1 Gigabyte which will be enough to accommodate excellent software updates.
Besides the memory, there also hardware components which are crucial to computer speed. One perfect example is the processor. This particular component of the computer tends to overheat when exhausted. When that occurs, the system slows down as a reaction to the heat. PC owners must check the processor every now and then to ensure that it is in good condition.
Computer performance also tends to be sluggish when the system is cluttered with programs and files, most especially desktop shortcuts. Programs add up to the computer’s workload and files occupy storage space, so when both aren’t controlled, the computer is burdened and will naturally slow down. Hence, one must constantly check his/her computer for items which are no longer of use and manually remove them. This will free up space, allowing the computer to ‘breathe’ more freely and run more efficiently.
